In some future time,
In some sombre edifice,
You will see three things.
My thimble. Silver.
Showing indentations of needle
Made by sewing small boys’ shirts.
My tortoiseshell comb
With teeth missing.
Stray grey hairs did not survive.
My glasses. Through which
I saw my world.
Family, neighbours, pets.
All now dimmed and cracked.
Is this all you see of me now?
Does this tell you all you should know?
Of my life, my loves and
How it all ended?
In this museum,
Designed with good intent,
How can you really show
My life,
And how I lived?
